Understanding Invoices

As an attorney on ExpertMD, you receive invoices from medical experts for their services. This guide explains how invoices work, what the different statuses mean, and how to access invoice PDFs.

Viewing your invoices

Navigate to Invoices in the left sidebar to see all invoices you have received. You can also view invoices for a specific case from the case detail page’s Invoices tab.

Invoice details

Each invoice includes:
  • Invoice number — A unique identifier
  • Doctor — The medical expert who created the invoice
  • Case — The case the invoice belongs to
  • Date created — When the invoice was created
  • Due date — When payment is expected
  • Line items — Itemized list of services with quantities, rates, and amounts
  • Subtotal — Sum of all line items
  • Tax — Tax amount if applicable
  • Total — The amount you owe

Itemized line items

ExpertMD invoices use itemized line items, so you see a detailed breakdown of each service:
Itemized invoices help you track expert witness costs per service type, which is useful for case budgeting and billing your own clients.

PDF from email

When you receive an invoice via email, the email contains a link to view and download the PDF. The PDF opens directly in your browser.
